Google Optimisation, how to be found in Google!
Needless to state the importance of a high ranking in the search results of Google for the traffic to the website. Next to paid solutions, with some extra time and effort the site can rank higher. Just by structuring the site, user the appropriate search terms and writing accurate text Google can better index the site.
The technical optimisation of the website, designed and developed by Creational, has already been done. Leaves only the optimisation of the content with the help of Create Sites. The steps to take are shown below:
1. Search terms. By which words the site should be found?
Create for each page a list with the search terms a page should be found on and that also describe the content of the page. Don’t make the search terms too general. Keep also in mind the language of the target group. Check the search terms other sites are found by. Check out these websites on how they use text.
2. Text. Write unique and relevant information.
Use the search terms in the text without using them too much. Also use synonymous. Use headings, paragraphs and lists to structure the text. As well as Google as visitors will understand the information better than one piece of text. Use relevant text for links instead of the nothing saying ‘click here’.
3. Title bar and main heading. What is the page about in one view?
Write for every page a unique, relevant and meaningful title for the title bar and also for the main heading. Again, use the search terms. Locate them in the first part of the sentence.
Create Sites
The words for the title bar can be entered via the properties button of a page. The field for the main heading is immediately visible when editing a page.
Create Sites automatically uses the heading (or else the menu name) for the title bar if nothing has been entered, but it’s better to provide one.
4. Short description. The first lines in the search results.
Write for each page a short, unique description. This wil be shown as the first lines in the search results.
Create Sites
The description can be entered via the properties button of a page.
Create Sites automatically uses the first lines of the text for a description, but it’s better to provide one.
5. Images. Words do say more than thousand images.
Google cannot see images. Therefore it’s important to enter an alternative text for each image in the page. Also use a descriptive filename for the image.
Create Sites
The filename can be change on your computer before uploading. After uploading you can change this via the edit panel in the Image Browser. The alternative text can be entered in the field at the bottom of the Image Browser when selecting an image.
Create Sites automatically uses the heading (or else the menu name) if there’s no alternative text, but it’s better to provide a relevant description for each image.
6. Links on other sites.
Google takes strongly into account for ranking a website - how important a website is – the number of links directing from other sites to the site. Try to place as much links as possible on other sites. For example sites from trade associations, sites with articles or interviews, weblogs about related subjects, as signature in forums, yellow pages, sites with videos or photos, …
Extra options
Search terms as meta information
The search terms can optionally be entered via the properties of a page. Although search engines don’t take them into account anymore, it can’t harm to include them if not be over used. These meta information will be placed in the code of the page, but won’t be visible.
Google Adwords
With Google Adwords it’s possible to place paid advertisements above or next to the search results of Google. The budget can be managed completely independently, as are the other options.
